Sharmila Mitra, M.A.
Director, Core Arts Pilates

Sharmila’s Pilates background started more than 10 years ago while studying
Pilates as a dance major at Cal State Fullerton.  After graduation, Sharmila was
diagnosed with Alopecia Areata, an autoimmune disease that attacks the hair
follicle and leads to patches of hair loss.

After extensive treatments of cortisone injections and oral steroids, Pilates
became her best outlet.  It was then when she realized that there were many
others suffering from more severe physical and emotional issues and that she
could be of service to others.

In 2000, Sharmila pursued her Pilates apprenticeship through the New York
Authentic Pilates Guild, under the direction of Romana Kryzanowska, one of
direct protégés of Joseph Pilates.  Sharmila is blessed to have worked with many
of Romana’s disciples including Adylia Roman (West Los Angeles, CA), Mejo Wiggin
(Greenwich, CT), Simona Cipriani (Mount Kisco, NY), Trish Garland (Sherman Oaks,
CA) and Niedra Gabriel (West Hollywood, CA).

2004 was a big year for Sharmila.  She acquired a home-based Pilates studio, and
at the same time, she pursued her second certification through Power Pilates.
Along with teaching at her own studio, Sharmila managed the Power Pilates
Studio at the Equinox Fitness Club in Pasadena.  Currently, she owns and
operates at two studios in West Hollywood and North Orange County.

Sharmila has worked with a variety of clientele including many young dancers,
athletes, breast cancer survivors, and those challenged with Cystic Fibrosis,
Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.  She has taught a number of
professionals in the entertainment industry including Toni Collette, Patricia
Richardson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Mary Louise Parker and Victoria Secret model
Yasmeen Ghauri.

Sharmila h
as a Master's degree in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa
Monica. Under the tutelage of Drs. Ron and Mary Hulnick, she’s been able to
gain insight into the power of healing, the beauty and strength of positive
intention and the ability of how loving acceptance can bring forward
immeasurable rewards and limitless fulfillment both, personally and
professionally.
